Three exciting new book are coming in the next few weeks:

The first one is the much anticipated “Goodbye 20th Century: A Biography of Sonic Youth”. In this book which will be released on May 2nd, David Browne delivers the definitive biography of Sonic Youth, an account based on extensive research; exclusive interviews with the band and those who have worked with them (Branca, O’Rourke, Jonze and Lunch to name a few); and unprecedented access to rare photos, unreleased recording and documents.

And on June 1st comes “No Wave: Post-Punk. Underground. New York 1976-1980” by Thurston Moore Byron Coley. No Wave is a unique combination of iconic images and insider gossip compiled by one of post-punk’s most legendary artists. An extension of punk rock, new wave and the avant garde art movement of the '70s and '80s, the No Wave scene attracted such stars as David Byrne, Iggy Pop, Brian Eno, William Burroughs and Jean-Michel Basquiat as well as many important but less famous artists such as Lydia Lunch, Rhys Chatam, DNA, Teenage Jesus, James Chance and Glenn Branca.
In No Wave Thurston Moore and music writer Byron Coley chronicle the art music scene from 1976-1980. Moore and Coley have selected 150 unforgettable images of the scene’s musicians and artists (most of which have never been published before) taken by photographers such as Bob Gruen, Godlis, Julia Gorton and Stephanie Chernikowski, and compiled hundreds of hours of personal interviews to create an oral history of the experimental movement.

Thurston is Built For Lovin'

Lost Treasures Of The Underworld Records will release soon a brand new Thurston Moore picture disc LP:
"A scabrous grab bag of weirdo recordings assembled by Thurston Moore: hardcore basement slam jammer with Mark Ibold (bass) and John Moloney of Sunburned (drums), a rough demo cue made for an HSBC TV ad (w/ Steve Shelley-drums –
uncredited – sorry Steve!), a few noise b-sides from various lost releases and a couple of long psycho-bead kosmi-killersz. And some subterranean acoustic luv — all wrapped up n a pic disc with art by T Moore extracted from his Street Mouth series
of collages......."
The LP is an edition of only 500 copies.

SYR 8 Will Hurt Your Ears!

The CD-only release of SYR 8 features a live recording that took place in the 2005 Roskilde Festival in Denmark and was billed as 'The other Side of Sonic Youth'. For this special event the Japanese laptop noise monger Masami Akita a.k.a. Merzbow and Swedish free jazz saxophonist/reeds player Mats Gustafsson joined the five-piece Sonic Youth. The one hour of improvised music was divided into 5-minute intervals and participants joined and exited during each interval.
The CD will be out on August 4th and in the meantime you can pre order a copy
of SYR 7 in the Sonic Youth store.

Do You Believe in Rapture?" is up for screening on NYC's REEL 13. REEL 13 "is a unique forum for independent filmmakers to showcase
their works on public television," says producer/curator Duana C. Butler. "We are thrilled to continue to present the very best in
documentary, narrative, experimental, and animated shorts this season." They are running a weekly online voting to select each week's short films. "Do You Believe in Rapture" is up for voting this week - the link is here.If the short gets enough votes, it'll broadcast on April 5th so please vote.

"Sensitive/Lethal is Thurston Moore in deep basement cosmosis. Investigations into acoustic guitar as noise instrument as well as noise/amp discussion for a hopeful and bright blackness. Childhood dreams of noise essayed with photos of unsuspecting innocents running from noise weirdo (front cover) and texas blues albino drug zap (johnny winter – still alive and well detail – back cover). This is the story told in drone meditation and sweet slice."

Sonic Youth, initially comprising of guitarist / vocalists Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo, guitarist / bassist / vocalist Kim Gordon and drummer Richard Edson, were formed in New York City in 1981. A product of the No-Wave music scene of the late 1970s, the group had their roots in abrasive, experimental music, with Moore and Ranaldo having previously worked with the experimental composer Glenn Branca. The band were joined in 1985 by drummer Steve Shelley, and have now recorded 14 albums together, as well as many side and solo projects. Their work has been consistently challenging and innovative, and they are widely regarded as one of the most intriguing and influential bands of their time.
