Text of Light/My Cat is An Alien Split Cd out now
April 23, 2007

CD re-issue of the first instalment in the new "Cosmic Debris" split ART-LP series set up by Maurizio and Roberto Opalio, aka MY CAT IS AN ALIEN. This Volume I sees the two space brothers from Torino, Italy, alongside Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) and his all-star ensemble TEXT OF LIGHT* (here featuring Alan Licht, Dj Olive, Ulrich Krieger and Tim Barnes). Their track "033103 Paris" has been recorded live at Centre Georges Pompidou in 2003 and mixed in dual mono by Ranaldo & Licht at NYC Echo Canyon studio. MCIAA's piece entitled "Everything falls like cosmic debris" is a conceptual ouverture to the whole series, performed in April 2006 at their secret recording space called Alien Zone, located up the Italian Western Alps.
The five-volumes series "Cosmic Debris" features My Cat Is An Alien alongside Text Of Light, Steve Roden, Keiji Haino, Mats Gustafsson, Loren Connors & his Haunted House band.
Each CD cover artwork reproduces the full image and details of the acrylic paintings created by Roberto Opalio for each copy of the original vinyl edition on MCIAA's own Opax Records.
*CD comes in a digi-sleeve textured cardboard cover.*

*= TEXT OF LIGHT are: Lee Ranaldo (SONIC YOUTH), Alan Licht, DJ Olive (GREGOR ASCH), Ulrich Krieger (ART ZOYD), Tim Barnes (THE TOWER RECORDINGS).

PRESS QUOTES:
"Roberto and his brother Maurizio are the highly advanced lifeforms crewing the mysterious starship that goes by the name of My Cat Is An Alien (MCIAA), plotting a quixotic course through three millennia of cosmic music, from the celestial drones of the Pythagorean monochord onwards, to land up in the gravity-free realm of the No-mind." (Tony Herrington - The Wire / editor-in-chief & publisher)

"Text of Light was formed in 2001 with the idea to perform improvised music during screenings of films by Stan Brakhage and other American avant-garde filmmakers from the 1950s and '60s. These should not be considered soundtracks for Brakhage's works. Rather, the group uses the films as an element to stimulate improvisation, like an additional player, juxtaposing film and music in a real-time performance mixed-media collage. The result is a new chapter in free improv and mixed media." (Bananafish)

TRACKLIST:

Sonic Youth
Sonic Youth, initially comprising of guitarist / vocalists Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo, guitarist / bassist / vocalist Kim Gordon and drummer Richard Edson, were formed in New York City in 1981. A product of the No-Wave music scene of the late 1970s, the group had their roots in abrasive, experimental music, with Moore and Ranaldo having previously worked with the experimental composer Glenn Branca. The band were joined in 1985 by drummer Steve Shelley, and have now recorded 14 albums together, as well as many side and solo projects. Their work has been consistently challenging and innovative, and they are widely regarded as one of the most intriguing and influential bands of their time.
