SYR5 + Nyc Ghosts & Flowers Update
March 23, 2000

SYR5 - Kim Gordon / Ikue Mori / DJ Olive

The new Kim Gordon side project album will be released on the SYR series, slated for release on May. You may want to check out this new Smells Like Records website has added more official info on SYR5 as well.

While on the subject, I may point out that the Kim's Bedroom exhibition/show is ongoing now. Also, there's a new publication released by Purple Books, and comes along with a CD. It is released as the catalogue to the exhibition, and therefore cannot be bought from bookstores and such (am I wrong? Tell me). There are also some great details up on this project at the MU Art Foundation website.

Also, Kim has done an interview with Rockgrl magazine, and the article can be found on issue #32 (March/April 2000). Kim is featured on the cover.

Another interesting and upcoming release is the new Sonic Youth long play, which will be released on Geffen records. The word is out that it will rock. Most of the songs were heard on the Bumbershoot festival past summer, as on the MP3s of the show that have been posted onto the internet. There is no confirmed release date yet, but I promise to post one as soon as I find out...

Sonic Youth
Sonic Youth, initially comprising of guitarist / vocalists Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo, guitarist / bassist / vocalist Kim Gordon and drummer Richard Edson, were formed in New York City in 1981. A product of the No-Wave music scene of the late 1970s, the group had their roots in abrasive, experimental music, with Moore and Ranaldo having previously worked with the experimental composer Glenn Branca. The band were joined in 1985 by drummer Steve Shelley, and have now recorded 14 albums together, as well as many side and solo projects. Their work has been consistently challenging and innovative, and they are widely regarded as one of the most intriguing and influential bands of their time.
